Catholic Archdiocese Covers “Domestic Partners” but not Birth Control for Women

UPDATED: SEE NEW SPONSOR LIST 3/3/12

I’m just guessing, but I’m assuming Tom Limbaugh’s employment contract covers his health insurance. Considering he’s had several health issues, he’s lucky he doesn’t have to pay. The average person, however, doesn’t have an employment contract and has to pay health care premiums out of their own pocket AS WELL AS prescription premiums.  The average cost for a family of four is about $14,000 per year (that’s with employer subsidies) and nearly $5000 for individuals. So I am completely perplexed why Steven Limbaugh and others are bitching about Obama’s mandate that employers must cover birth control for women with no co-pay.

This mandate basically comes down to one thing: INSURANCE COMPANIES VS. WOMEN – and not all women. It doesn’t cover my grandmother or my daughter. It would basically cover just me. So the percentage is low anyway, but it must REALLY be upsetting the HEALTH INSURANCE COMPANIES because SOMEONE, SOMEWHERE has changed the entire premise of the mandate. SOMEONE LIKE MARCUS LIMBAUGH:

The reaction that they are having to what I said yesterday about Susan Fluke — or Sandra Fluke, whatever her name is — the Georgetown student who went before a congressional committee and said she’s having so much sex, she’s going broke buying contraceptives and wants us to buy them. I said, “Well, what would you call someone who wants us to pay for her to have sex? What would you call that woman? You’d call ’em a slut, a prostitute or whatever.”

“Whatever her name is..” Pete Limbaugh is playing that ridiculous game of showing that he has so little respect for Sandra Fluke that he can’t even be bothered to remember her name.

The controversy stems from “religious” leaders’ objections at covering something they are against – birth control for women. But take a look at page 48 of the Catholic Archdiocese benefit plan administered by The Hartford:

For California residents:
1) The following is added to the definition of Surviving Spouse in the Survivor Income Benefit:
“Spouse” will also include an individual who is in a registered domestic partnership with You in accordance with California law. References to Your marriage or divorce will include Your registered domestic partnership or dissolution of Your registered domestic partnership.

“Religious leaders” cover domestic partners (which I’m pretty sure they are vehemently against)  because of the California Insurance Equality Act, which passed in 2005 making it law that ALL companies that offer insurance include domestic partners.

Now, I’m pretty sure the Archdiocese already covers birth control. Their issue, along with other conservatives, is why should they have to pay for it. Well…they don’t. The policy owner pays to the tune of  more than$5,000 in premiums a year. Religious leaders wouldn’t even have to pay since their followers don’t believe in it.

In the end, it will be the woman who pays through higher premiums. Don’t think for a second it is “FREE.”

We need to get the argument straight.People are speaking for US. Stuart Limbaugh’s characterization of a woman on birth control as a slut and suggesting that he should be able to “watch” is despicable. Here’s a list of his sponsors and a Facebook page with more info. Since March is Women’s History Month, let’s not use any of the sponsors products below for the entire month of March. I don’t like Dominos Pizza anyway. I love a good laugh. I’ll bet Scott Limbaugh is going to really think this is hilarious.
