25% of Women Wear Underwear They Would Be Horrified to Be Caught Dead In!

Why do we do it?  What is it about the underwear we keep with the elastic coming apart from the panty or the one with the hole in the crouch (not meant for being sexy).  It might be our last resort pair just in case we don’t get to the laundry, but let’s face it, in defining underwear, it no longer fits the bill.  Think you’re alone?  Almost.  ShopSmart magazine, published by Consumers Union, the publisher of Consumer Reports, interviewed more than 1,000 women over the age of 18 about their underwear habits. You may find the results surprising.

Only 30 percent complain the underwear rides up.  That seems low, but 54 percent of women purchase their underwear at Mass Merchandisers.  Maybe that’s the key – Wal-Mart or Target underwear stays put…hmmm.

More than half (56%) fold their underwear before they put them away.  Only 27 percent just toss it in a drawer.  What do you suppose the other 17 percent do? Iron them and hang them up?

Here’s some more interesting results:

  • Over half (53%) of women have ever tried a body shaper; of those, the majority (84%) report a negative experience including uncomfortable to wear (60%), difficult to don (52%), and too tight (41%) – [they are “body shapers” they are supposed to be tight.]
  • Nearly one-third have difficulty determining their correct size.  [Really, Small, Medium, Large should not be the way we buy underwear].
  • Although half of women indicate that they have fit complaints, only eight percent of women try on a new brand or type before they purchase them.  [People try them on! Mental note: wash before worn].
