18 Female World Leaders and every one has an interesting story, and the same lipstick color. President Cristina Elisabet Fernández de Kirchner is the first female elected as President of Argentina and the second female to serve as president after Peron (Peron was VP and elevated to President when her husband died). She is the widow of former Argentine President Néstor Kirchner who died this year. In 2005, she ran against Hilda González de Duhalde, the wife of former president Eduardo Duhalde. Prime Minister Mari Johanna Kiviniemi is the second female to serve as Prime Minister of Finland. President Tarja Halonen is the 11th President of Finland and the first female. So today, both of Finland’s top jobs are occupied by women.
President Borjana Krišto is the first female President of Bosnia and Herzegovina.
Prime Minister Jadranka Kosor is the first female Prime Minister of Croatia, assuming the position after her predecessor resigned last year.
President Mary McAleese of Ireland is the second female president, but the first world leader to assume the position from another female.
