Hijack Averted: TSA Confiscates Sock Monkey Gun

For some people, you really do have to spell everything out.

You hope it’s not an agent that’s sworn to protect you from the threat of terrorism, though.

Phyllis May from Redmond, Washington makes sock monkeys, then dresses them up as cowboys complete with a holster and gun. Once completely in uniform, the sock monkey is transformed into Rooster Monkburn! John Wayne played Rooster Cogburn in a 1975 film with Kathryn Hepburn. You can still see the reruns on classic movie channels. Apparently, the TSA agent welcoming Rooster and Ms. May through security wasn’t having any of Rooster getting on board with a weapon. TheBlaze.com reprinted the story and I thing you should read the exchange between Ms. May and the TSA agent out loud with a friend, just to get a good idea of the exchange:

TSA Agent: “This is a gun.”

May: “No, it’s not a gun it’s a prop for my monkey.”

TSA Agent: “If I held it up to your neck, you wouldn’t know if it was real or not.” The unidentified TSA agent then allegedly said she would be forced to confiscate the item and report the incident to police.

May:  “Well go ahead. You’re kidding me right, and she said no it looks like a gun.”

Says theBlaze.com,

The unidentified TSA agent then allegedly said she would be forced to confiscate the item and report the incident to police.

“I said well go ahead,” May said. “And I said really? You’re kidding me right, and she said no it looks like a gun.”

Ultimately, though the agent did not escalate the incident to police.

“Rooster Monkburn has been disarmed so I’m sure everyone on the plane was safe,” May said. “I understand she was doing her job but at some point doesn’t common sense prevail?”

No, no it doesn’t.
