What are polychlorinated biphenyls (PCBs), organochlorine pesticides, perfluorinated compounds (PFCs), phenols, polybrominated diphenyl ethers (PBDEs), phthalates, polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs) and perchlorate and why should you care?
You should only care if having these chemicals in your body troubles you. Think this doesn’t apply to you? If the answer is YES to the following question, you’re being poisoned:

Recently, the University of California San Francisco announced they have completed a study (first of its kind) that analyzes the chemicals in pregnant women.
If you’re pregnant and you are living in the U.S., you are 99-100% likely to have these chemicals in your body as well as, “PBDEs – compounds used as flame retardants and now banned in many states, including California – and DDT – an organochlorine pesticide banned in the United States in 1972.”
For women who aren’t pregnant, the article adds a lukewarm caution, “Although the chemicals found are similar to those identified previously in nonpregnant women, pregnant women are more vulnerable than the general population. Many of the pollutants measured in the study can pass through the placenta from the mother to the developing fetus. They have been measured in cord blood, fetal blood and amniotic fluid.”
POLLUTANTS HAVE BEEN MEASURED IN CORD BLOOD, FETAL BLOOD AND AMNIOTIC FLUID!
According to an article published in Environmental Health News, “The health risks for mother and child associated with exposure to this many chemicals at detectable – and sometimes high – levels is not known. Low-level exposures to some of these chemicals during the prenatal period – a time of rapid growth – can lead to a host of long-term health effects, including birth defects, reproductive problems, and cancer. ”
WHAT! WHERE ARE THE CONGRESSIONAL HEARINGS? WHERE’S THE ENVIRONMENTAL EMERGENCY TASK FORCE THAT SHOULD BE IMMEDIATELY EXPANDING THIS STUDY? WHY IS THIS SO LOW-KEY?
It’s not as if it hasn’t been published online and in major newspapers and media. This is not a secret study. It has been widely publicized. But I hear nothing about an immediate follow up to this BREAKING story. If only Keith Olbermann could have used his last few minutes of air time to say, “This will be my last show. MSNBC has decided to not renew my contract, but hopefully they will find out why so many poisons and chemicals are floating around in the bodies of pregnant women hurting their unborn child and perhaps contributing to the soaring number of autism cases.”
I know there is outrage over Olbermann’s firing. It’s saturating the Twitter space. If only we could tie in “Olbermann” to this study. Help with pushing our left/right/sideways agenda of ensuring better health care for women and children in America. I know CNN’s Anderson Cooper tweeted about Olbermann’s firing and promised the full report on CNN’s AC360. I think every major website and newspaper has analyzed the sudden departure. I’m pretty sure experts have been called in to determine what this will mean for political pundits. This is a big story, but the poisoning of American women and children is not. Why?
If we can’t tie Olbermann, maybe Palin, how about getting a weather person standing in a blizzard to tell us all it’s snowing because we can’t see outside our window AND maybe wear a shirt that says “American Women are Being Poisoned.” I know that will pique at least some interest, or will it be dismissed?
