Is it time to kick some women out of the #womenclub?

womenonthemoveGeez. I’ve been writing and studying women’s history for 20 years and little has changed during that time here in the U.S., and the status quo I’m referring to has little to do with equal pay. What hasn’t changed, and has in fact thrived, is the complete lack of respect some women visit upon their sisters. I’m here to tell you that men have little to do with our inability to sit on boards or achieve executive level positions. If you want to understand the problem with equality in America, just turn on ABC’s The Bachelor. The mean-spirited interaction lit by unsubstantiated rumprs, blown up drama, scheming and alliances made simply to destroy unsuspecting contenders is just a day in the life of a woman in the workplace. And, it doesn’t stop there. This past weekend has been especially ugly on Twitter for me with “conservative” “Christian” women who apparently have no idea what it means to follow Christ. My colleague, Leslie Wimes, founder of Women on the Move, found the comment below on her website today.

In response to this woman’s ignorant comment: statistically black and white girls are similar in terms of their sexual partners. As far as birth rates, white girls have their share of babies out of wedlock as well:

According to Abortion and Race, “The Guttmacher Institute (AGI) puts the percentage of black abortions at 30% of the U.S. total. Their most recent numbers are from 2008. Similarly, AGI tells us that Hispanic women accounted for 25% of all U.S. abortions in 2008, though Hispanics make up just 16.3% of the U.S. population.  Compare those numbers to non-Hispanic whites, who make up 63.7% of America’s population, but account for only 36% of all U.S. abortions.”

These are facts, numbers that I felt are required to make a point, but Barbie doesn’t care. I don’t even know what she means by watching “women on daytime tv.” That’s obviously her world. And it is a sad one.

Barbie is what we refer to in the #girlpower business as an #unwoman. She sits on the outskirts of our powerful world throwing insults. Unfortunately, she’s often given high positions in business because she has no problem changing who she is when it works in her favor. That’s her face below. She’s not alone, but neither are we and we can’t get ahead with unwomen anymore.  Her insult has only given more strength to our purpose. Feel free to steal the image below. – #defeattheunwoman.
